Since the application and research of abrasive belt grinding is still in the development stage in our country, there is not much knowledge about the use of abrasive belts in domestic literature. As an abrasive belt manufacturer, when we receive and visit users, we often feel that some users do not know much about the storage and use of abrasive belts. 1. Storage of abrasive belts
The storage of abrasive belts is very critical to the use of abrasive belts, especially for wide abrasive belts. Ideal storage conditions and reasonable storage methods can ensure that the abrasive belt is used in its best condition.
1.1. Temperature and humidity requirements
Abrasive belts should not be stored in places with large changes in temperature and humidity. The ideal temperature is: 18-220°C; the ideal humidity is: 40-65%. Excessive temperature will cause the binder to age and reduce the service life of the abrasive belt. . Synthetic fiber matrix abrasive belts (such as polyester cloth abrasive belts) are sensitive to cold and cannot be stored in cold warehouses.
If the humidity is too high or too low, the abrasive belt will deform to a certain extent, and the deformation will reduce the bonding strength of the rubber sand layer of the abrasive belt. In particular, excessive humidity has a serious impact on abrasive belts. Except for water-resistant abrasive belts, general abrasive belts are prone to breakage, wrinkles, etc. when used after being dampened, causing the abrasive belts to be scrapped. In addition, when grinding with a damp abrasive belt, the grinding materials tend to adhere to the surface of the abrasive belt, reducing the service life of the abrasive belt. High temperature and low humidity have a greater impact on the paper sanding belt, making the paper sanding belt brittle and easy to break and scrap during use.
1.2. Storage
The warehouse where sanding belts are stored should be cool, dry and ventilated; the abrasive belts should be placed on cargo racks, not on the ground; the cargo racks should be kept about 200-500mm away from the ground and walls, and at the same time avoid being close to the heat dissipation and drainage device; try not to open the packaging box of unused abrasive belts. Do not stack heavy objects on the abrasive belt packaging box to avoid creases and cracks in the abrasive belt.
2. Treatment of abrasive belt before use
Although the storage of abrasive belts is important, if the abrasive belts are not handled correctly before use, their performance will be seriously affected.
2.1. Suspension of abrasive belt
The abrasive belt should be hung for at least 2-5 days before use. The purpose is to eliminate curling caused by packaging.
Hang the unpacked abrasive belt on a 100-200mm diameter pipe or a special abrasive belt support frame. The length of the pipe should be greater than the width of the abrasive belt, otherwise the abrasive belt will easily fall off or have a bell mouth; the pipe should be horizontal, otherwise the edge of the abrasive belt will be easily damaged.
The ambient temperature and humidity of the hanging sand belt should comply with the storage conditions of the sand belt. The simplest way is to use several 40W or 64W light bulbs in a sealed room to keep it dry.
2.2. Appearance inspection
The suspended abrasive belt should undergo necessary appearance quality inspection before use to see whether the abrasive belt joints are smooth and firm; whether there are holes, sand clumps, lack of sand, glue spots, and wrinkles on the surface of the abrasive belt; whether the edges of the abrasive belt are neat and tidy. And whether there are any cracks. If there are small cracks on the edge, it will not affect the use after being cut off (cut into an arc shape).
3. Use of abrasive belts
Only by rationally selecting and using the abrasive belt correctly, and correctly solving various problems that arise during the use of the abrasive belt, and giving full play to the advantages of abrasive belt grinding and the best grinding performance of the abrasive belt, can we ensure the processing of the workpiece. quality.
3.1. Principles of use
(1) Reasonably select the abrasive belt model
Different types of abrasive belts are selected for different materials and shapes of workpieces to be processed. The selection of abrasive belt models mainly includes four factors: base material, abrasive material, binder type and abrasive belt joint method. aspects to choose from. This knowledge has been reported many times in domestic literature and will not be introduced here.
(2) Choose the appropriate particle size
Only by selecting the appropriate grit size of the abrasive belt can the surface quality of the workpiece be processed and the service life of the abrasive belt be increased. If the grit size of the abrasive belt selected is too small, the surface quality of the workpiece cannot be guaranteed; if the grit size of the abrasive belt selected is too large, the abrasive belt will easily wrinkle and break during use, reducing the service life of the abrasive belt.
(3) Duration selection of multi-pass abrasive belt grinding process
If a workpiece adopts multiple abrasive belt grinding processes, the particle size of the abrasive belt used in the subsequent process can only jump up to two grit numbers compared with the previous process. Only in this way can the efficiency of abrasive belt grinding be exerted and the processing guaranteed. The shape and size of the workpiece and the surface quality of the processed workpiece.
(4) Distribution of removal amount in multi-pass abrasive belt grinding process
Two processes: the distribution ratio of front and rear passes is 85/15;
Three processes: the distribution ratio of front and rear passes is 65/25/10;
Four processes: the distribution ratio of front and rear passes is 50/30/12/8
(5) Selection of abrasive belt running direction
When using a lapped abrasive belt, make sure that the running direction of the abrasive belt is consistent with the direction marked on the back of the abrasive belt. Otherwise, the abrasive belt will easily break prematurely during use and affect the surface quality of the workpiece. When using a butt abrasive belt, the running direction of the abrasive belt can be ignored.
3. 2. Common problems and solutions during abrasive belt grinding
Only when the abrasive grains of the abrasive belt are basically blunted and the abrasive belt loses its grinding performance is the normal end of the abrasive belt's service life. However, in the actual abrasive belt grinding process, due to reasons such as poor quality of the abrasive belt, poor quality of the workpiece, equipment problems, improper operation, etc., the abrasive belt will be scrapped when the abrasive grains are not blunted.
