How to improve the service life of abrasive belts

The Abrasive Belt used as an abrasive tool is the same as any other cutting tool. Due to the relative motion between the tool and the workpiece, various forms of wear will inevitably occur during the machining process. How to improve the service life of abrasive belts to minimize production costs is something we must pay attention to.
1. Reduce the initial wear of the abrasive belt
The initial wear of the abrasive belt is caused by the shedding or breakage of the abrasive grains. In order to reduce the initial wear, the new abrasive belt is pre-ground for a certain period of time by reducing the contact pressure, and then resumes normal operation. This method can also be called dressing, but this is different from Dressing of grinding wheels is not the same.
2. Use grinding additives or grinding fluid to reduce the wear rate in the stable wear stage.
The main purpose of using grinding additives or grinding fluids is to reduce the friction between the abrasive particles and the workpiece, which is the source of wear, and reduce the grinding heat, thereby achieving the effect of reducing the wear rate.
3. Increase the perimeter of the abrasive belt to reduce the effectiveness of the abrasive belt.
Reducing the abrasive belt action rate can increase the life of the abrasive belt. If the machine tool equipment conditions permit, appropriately increase the circumference of the abrasive belt so that the abrasive belt can be better cooled and increase the total number of abrasive grains participating in grinding.
4. Appropriately increase the sand belt speed.
Appropriately increasing the abrasive belt speed can not only reduce the surface roughness, but also reduce the crushing and wear of the abrasive grains and extend the service life.
5. Gradually increase the grinding pressure.
After the abrasive belt enters the normal cutting stage, gradually increasing the grinding pressure of the abrasive belt can strengthen the grinding process, increase the cutting edge ratio of the abrasive grains, break the abrasive grains, and generate new cutting edges to restore the cutting ability, that is, self-sharpening effect, thus To achieve the purpose of extending the service life of the abrasive belt.
6. Improve the cutting performance of the abrasive belt itself.
Abrasive grains with good toughness are resistant to breakage, thus extending service life. The abrasive belt cutting performance of classic sand planting is better than that of gravity sand planting. Reducing the thickness of the binder and the density of the sand during planting can increase the chip-holding space of the sand belt, improve the strength of the binder, and make the bonding more reliable. These measures can improve the grinding performance of the abrasive belt to a certain extent and extend the service life of the abrasive belt.

The above measures are mainly aimed at reducing the main form of abrasive belt wear (abrasion and crushing). For the two forms of bonding and detachment, the organizational hardness of the abrasive belt, sand planting density, etc. It can be solved by controlling and selecting the structural parameters of the abrasive belt. At the same time, the problem of sticky cover wear of the abrasive belt can be solved by applying a special coating on the surface of the abrasive belt, that is, the super coating mentioned above, or by using grinding fluid.
